GUIPÚZCOA REVELADA / GIPUZKOA REVEALED

Cualquiera de las fotografías de esta exposición en el Museo de San Telmo puede ser escrutada con todo el detalle que queramos poner en la labor. Para seguir haciéndolo en un futuro con un cierto equilibro y alguna garantía, es fundamental mantener una cultura fotográfica que no esté alejada del papel, del «objeto» fotográfico, cuya corporeidad constituye por sí misma un registro esencial, no solo de la imagen que transporta, sino de su momento primitivo, de los deseos e intenciones de quien la realizó, de su grado de pulcritud y delicadeza y hasta de las huellas y vicisitudes del tiempo.

Escribió Ortega y Gasset que una hora bien contada jamás se terminaría de contar. Como fotógrafo pienso que, del mismo modo, un instante bien fotografiado nunca se terminaría de fotografiar. Y por añadidura, el magnetismo de esos humildes objetos que llamamos fotografías, que paradójicamente tienden a desaparecer en la era de la imagen, quizás estriba en que, para verlos bien, jamás terminaríamos de mirarlos.

Any of the photographs inn this exhibition at San Telmo Museoa could be scrutinized in as much detail as we are prepared to offer the work. To continue doing so inn the future with a degree of balance and some guarantees, it is fundamental to maintain a photographic culture not too far removed from paper from the photographic «object», whose corporeal nature constitutes an essential record on its own, not only of the image it carries, but also of a primitive moment, of the wishes and intentions of the person who took it, of their degree of neatness and delicacy and even the traces and vicissitudes of time.

Ortega y Gasset wrote than an hour told well would never finish being told. As a photographer, I think that, in the same way, a moment photographed well never finishes being photographed. And what is more, the magnetism of those humble objects we call photographs, which paradoxically tend to disappear in the era of the image, perhaps lies in the fact that, to see them well, we would never finish looking at them.
